It's commonly, but wrongly associated with France; and most of us have probably had this item before at some point in our lives.

Although not the obvious one you might be thinking of; the shape of this item is (supposedly) derived from Islam, but it was created in a predominantly Catholic country (not France, though it is associated with it).
