I have a KM#987a from 1998 (non-magnetic) but in all the time that I have been religiously checking 100's of pennies, I have never found a KM#986a  z)

thanks raddick007

i can confirm km#987a as well :)
first coin i checked today, and... yes :)
but, i`m talking about 1999 1 and 2 pence!

  KM# 987a - I only have a 1998, so not a 1999 non-magnetic 2 pence coin.

  KM# 986a - Also there is a gap in my collection for a 1999 non-magnetic 1 pence coin.

So I too keep looking for either of the 1999 non-magnetic and have never seen them.  :(

I get the impression that the 1999 KM#986a is actually quite rare. Every UK collector I have read or spoken to says the same thing - they have been checking all the pennies that come their way and still have not found one. We did see one exhibitor at the London Coin Fair on Saturday that had a 1999 Bronze Penny for sale at £5! I think I will keep looking and hope to find one for ... 1p :O

thanks again radrick007

so, what about mintage??? 916.000.000 and 460.000.000???
is that correct?

There is no mention on the Royal Mint website of the 1999 Bronze Penny, but they do say this about the 1998 2p: "From 1971 to 1991, 1p and 2p coins intended for general circulation were struck in bronze. Since 1992 they have been struck in copper-plated steel, apart from in 1998 when 2p coins were produced in bronze as well as in copper-plated steel. Updated and revised, January 2012"
The mintage figures they give for the 1998 2p are as follows: 98,676,000 (bronze); 115,154,000 (copper-plated steel); and this is correctly indicated on the Numista catalogue pages:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces7398.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces869.html
However, there is no mention on the Royal Mint site of a 1999 Bronze 2p so I suspect that the entry on the Numista listing which says there were 460 million of them produced may be slightly erroneous  8)

I have a 1999 2p which is non-magnetic and it is BU not Proof...the BU version is not listed https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces869.html
I have got two 1998 and two 1999 UK 2p coins in my collection.

The 1998 Bronze one is AU from Circulation. (Non Magnetic)
The 1998 Copper Plated Steel one is UNC from a mint Set. (Magnetic)

The 1999 Bronze one is UNC from a Mint Set. (Non Magnetic)
The 1999 Copper Plated Steel one is AU from circulation. (Magnetic)

The 1999 UNC (BU) coin is missing from this page https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces869.html
and needs to be added. Currently the lines are closed. Can the referee for the UK please open the lines or add the missing mintage line so it can be corrected?

Cheers Mike
