1753 Prussia 1/12 thaler [解決]

6 posts

Hello all,
I need a little help with a positive identification. I have this coin. I think it is dated 1753c but the "3" could be wrong. Silver or billon, 3.2 grams, 23mm dia. 1mm thick.

The closest match I have found is this: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces111372.html
but there are several design differences
"U" instead of "V" in Fridericus
Clothing folds and hair different
Thaler larger than Reichs and so on..

Any ideas?
Rather looks like 1755 to me. For the differences simply a different die from a different die cutter I suppose.
Here's a 1753C for sale, has same U for V as yours. German states have a lot of design differences in different years due to different dies. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/civitas_galleries/33/product/german_states_prussia_1753_112_thaler/790296/Default.aspx

Excellent research. That coin seems to be almost identical to mine in design. I wasn't sure if there was a missing coin in the catalog. I looked through my Krause and didn't see anything, but it is a few years old.
Thanks for the help everyone.
