Overstruck coin and Numista catalog

9 posts
Hello,
I got this overstruck mamluk fals few days ago but I'm wondering how I'm gonna add it on Numista as both coins present on it are not listed on Numista.

Both coins are easily recognizable, were minted under the same ruler at Tripoli and can be seen here under two different references :

First coin : Balog 475
Second coin : Balog 479

Should I add both coins on the catalog... if so, with the same picture ?
Hi Cycnos

in my opinion it is advisable to insert a single coin with its mint and insert the two dates with the relevant Balog references next to the date.
here an example of how you could do it:

Hi simoneo80,

This kind of page works when the coins are variants from a single type, but the problem here is that the coin shows two completely different styles (the patterns are completely different).

The first one has the name and mint written on the observe inside a circle separeted by two horizontal lines (bottom of the right picture) and on the reverse side a wheel (left part of the left picture).
The second one has the name and mint written on the observe inside a circle only (first picture, whithout the wheel) and the reverse side shows a lily inside a double octolobe (second picture, whitout the inscriptions at the bottom)
Therefore in this case it is better to insert the two coins in a distinct way. Even if the mint itself is the same.. the reference changes..so then enter both.
You got some interesting Cycnos! I have seen some your other additions, and I liked those as well! Some nice medieval pieces.

Regarding this coin, it is basically medieval mule, maybe we can check other mules are put into catalogue.

Thanks Jarcek !
I fall in love with this coinage too so I'm gonna add more of them in the catalog soon
Just saw those new coins! I love medieval coinage as well, you collect medieval only?

I collect hammered coins from other periods as well (except the greek ones), the "late" oriental cash (17th century and after), plus colonial and war time issues.
The medieval coinage is, however, my favorite : I'm focusing on the Islamic states, Savoy, royal, papal and archbishopric issues.
