What's the story behind your Numista profile picture?

I've often wondered about this for numerous other users on the forum, and I'm genuinely curious to hear some of the reasons why your profile pic is what it is! (if you have one)

My own is just a very common 'Semeuse' type 1 Franc coin issued from 1898-1920.
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces682.html
I always liked the symbolism of hope (the rising sun) and rebirth (the sower), or at least that's how I interpret it!

One of the first coins that got me interested in collecting was the resurrected nickel version that came out after 1960 with the introduction of the Nouveau Franc for several decades. It's nice to see such a striking design enduring on Euros as well, but I decided to go with the original silver coin for my pic.

(A less romantic reason is that it was the only picture of which I could find that was the appropriate size for a profile pic, and if I can find a suitably sized version I may change it to the Turin 20 Francs in the future)
I like evening more than dawn. Thus, I photographed a nice Victoria Harbour picture and set it as my profile picture.
Mine was an entry for the last Numista token. I wrote the description here

https://en.numista.com/forum/topic55814.html#dernier
Mine is just the reverse of a US 1897 5-dollar gold piece. The photo had good contrast and looked reasonable when shrunk to profile pic size.
Mine is Mauritius 100 Rupees, but has a Dodo on it, which is extinct, unlike me.
When I was looking for a profile picture, this one stood out, but no idea why.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

I have always had a fascination with old European and North American silver and gold imperial/colonial coinage, and I love the old pre-decimal penny and sovereign designs. This is a photo of one of my first pre-1900 silver piece. I was a young child and interested in coins (had a small collection of about 600) and a friend of the family popped in, he presented everyone with a gift as it was just before Christmas and mine was a matchbox, a little saddened on the inside but when I opened it, there sat a 1893 crown (5s) and a jubilee head 1890 double florin (4s). I had only ever hears about them before or seen them in books and had a growing fascination with the Britannia penny. What sealed the deal on the crown was that I remember still being in awe with the 'George and the Dragon' design after a few Christmases ago when my uncle showed me his 1889 sovereign (which my auntie dropped8)). Since then I have amassed an small inner collection of antique silver world coins from Hong Kong to Panama

Coin of first Bohemian king. Guess I have power complex, as it show throne seated guy. :O

From coin comment:
Vratislaus II, second son of Bretislaus I, taken control of Duchy of Bohemia in 1061. He is known for being the very first king of Bohemia. We was active in the Investiture contests, and as a token of gratitude, he recieved royal coronation from the hands of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV, although the title was not hereditary. Thus he ruled as a king from 1085 until 1092.

Just the Boston "B" for my baseball team, the Boston Red Sox!
Mine is a Free City of Danzig 5 Gulden (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces28356.html), which is one of my all time favourite coin.
I remember when I got it, it was on my birthday (2012?) and my grandma gave me a small chest which se haf found among by late grandather's things. She said it was probably from my grandfather's brother, who collected coins. In this chest were a lot of coins, mostly European WWI and WWII and also some German WWII banknotes. Most of them I could identify within seconds, but there were a few I had never seen before, which made me really curious. It turned out that most of these coins were from the Free City of Danzig. A few 5 and 10 pfennig and also 3 really nice 1/2 gulden and 3 1 gulden in high condition. But the biggest of them all was this 5 gulden coin. It's still my precious out of all my coins - even if it's not even silver.

Mine is the weighing of the heart from the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
You can read about it here: http://www.egyptian-scarabs.co.uk/weighing_of_the_heart.htm

I choose it because I'm interested in the culture and history of Ancient Egypt.

A coin I love for its design. Since I began collecting I wanted to grab one and now I got one. :P
I won't change until I grab a silver coin from the United States of Belgium.... :wiz:

If some of you remember, I previously had Luffy from One Piece as profile picture. Totally coin non-related but it is one of my favourite character from an anime or a show.
I make copper art, it’s a maple leaf I made.

You have a blacksmith for iron, a white smith for iron that is cleaned of its black scaling (kitchen ware), gold smith, silver smith, and for copper a redsmith.

This is is my rose!

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

Your reply reminds me of that scene from War Horse where a German and British soldier flip a coin to decide who's going to take this horse from no man's land back to their trenches.

The exact words were: “That's the face of my Kaiser looking up at me out of the mud, and he does not look pleased with me."

Me departing Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. I made friends with the Dutch ISAF photographer when we landed, and he emailed me all off the takeoff and landing shots later that day. We delivered several pieces of the heavy equipment used to pave the runway.

In my late teens, I got a bit overconfident in coin collecting and acquired three coins which I couldn't identify at first glance. Which was quite remarkable, because I knew the 1977 edition of the Standard Catalog of world coins by heart B. At home, I wasn't any more succesful in identifying, the main reason for it being the internet not having been invented yet.

And then I went studying, found a girl friend, a job, raised a kid and for 30 years, I didn't look at my collection.

When the virus got me again, one of the first things I wanted to take on was identifying this handful of coins. One of them was a heavily damaged coin with L C on one side and 1 Stuiver on the other. The coin looked as if someone had tried to drive a nail through it. All I knew was that it looked similar to an old and rare coin from Curaçao (KM#24).
Thanks to the internet (Numismaster), I found it within minutes, and thanks to Google I was able to find a lot more information on this token (which is actually one of three of a kind).

I chose the coin as my avatar on Numista because at the time many Numistans took the most expensive coin from their collection as an avatar. I felt the need for a silent protest by picking a low end coin (in Dutch, 'stuiver' is proverbial for cheap or no money), as if to demonstrate that small change has a right for attention, too. Being from a humble background, I might have mixed in some autobiographical emotional load.*
The flag of my nation I added years ago when someone from the Numista team suggested it was a good idea. There are still a few early members left with a flag in their avatar.

Mine is Britannia holding an electric guitar instead of a trident. It's cropped from the cover art of a folk rock record by the Albion Dance Band. I found it amusing because it combines two of my current interests: coins (especially British predecimal) and traditional music (especially English).

My previous avatar was the obverse of the oldest coin in my collection, that I found in a bulk bin for about 15 cents, identified myself with help from this forum, and created the Numista page for:

LOL!!! :8D

People message me this question all the time!
My reason is probably the dumbest and or one of the funniest...
My avatar is more about a song than anything...

"Blame Canada" is a song from a movie called, "South Park, Bigger, Louder and Uncut"

It's probably one of the most stupidest and funniest songs and movie I've ever seen or heard...
It makes me laugh endlessly!!!

The whole movie is completely hysterical and full of completely obnoxious toilet humor.
(My comedic cure for the even more insane world that you and I live in...)

...Obviously, I absolutely LOVE Canada and have a high admiration for all things Canadian.

The only thing that I find funnier aboot South Park is Terrance and Philip...devastating.

I would imagine most of you probably have no idea who they are or what South Park is or about...
Most people that dislike the show will pry just roll there eyes at me.
Those that love the show will probably get plenty of good laugh out of it...

And to further answer the questions of several others...no my favorite character is not "Timmy" (because like me, he is in a wheelchair LOL)

But that's the long and short of the reason for my name and avatar...
I am starting to trade again please
Open to trades with members in the United States and Canada at this time

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
The coin in my Profile picture is a 1929 British Halfcrown in near EF condition. I have owned it for just under 2 years and it was the first piece in my British Half Crown collection. I brought it randomly online and loved it so much it rekindled my interest in Halfcrowns.

I now have over 100 different of them from 1635 to 1970 and Halfcrowns and Florins of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Rhodesia.

I still own the coin and consider it an anchor of my collection, except back then it was alone, now its surrounded by older and much rarer coins - but its still special.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

My profile picture is a crop of a Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation $5 note I own. It is one of the rarer varieties, dated 1937 and having been hand-signed by the then-Chief Accountant of the bank. It's the first pre-war Hong Kong banknote to be added to my collection.

When the Japanese conquered Hong Kong in the last days of 1941, they outlawed the Hong Kong dollar and replaced it with the Japanese military yen, in addition to setting up a deadline for the locals to cash in their Hong Kong currency. As a result, only a fraction of these "hand-signed" notes saw the end of the Second World War.

This note had belonged to my late relative, and was gifted to me at the discretion of his widow sometime in March of 2018. I sometimes sit and wonder just how much it has been through.
