Just been given this by a friend during the last few days. I think the silvery highlights from the base metal of the original 1c coin really add something here…

I have one elonged token from when I visited Maracanã Stadium. I pretend to add it to catalogue but I have too much exonumia to add and never did it though.
Please try to find the time to add them - I'm sure you will have things that others find interesting too and it all helps to build our wonderful catalogue (even if some people find our acquisitions a bit sad 😢). 🙃😃

Haha yeah, i do have some tokens that others would call junks but I like them for their aesthetics. I will try to do a few each moment
Stretched coins are PMD’s and should never be allowed, not under Exonumia or any other category. Period.
Just my thoughts.

I agree for 100% with you. Elongated coins are coins spoiled to dead on purpose…
This discussion was here before, but it seems Numista has a bunch of very stubborn ‘coin-destroyers’.
There is even somebody who called himself referee for elongated coins, for places like German East Africa and others
with very rare and/or expensive coins.
This bullshit is near blasfemy….

Not necessarily. One of the last elongated coins that I actually purchased was from the Tower of London. There, they provide a blank planchet supplied directly into the machine for pressing, so no coin is used.
Also, I have tended to use either worn or slightly damaged coins whenever I've pressed any actual pennies, so little or no loss to numistmatics on the whole. I too would frown upon anyone using good quality coins for this purpose. Furthermore, this aspect of coin collecting could be seen as a gateway to novice collectors, so please don't knock the tiny proportion of genuine coin collectors who take a passing interest in this usual coin related pastime. As someone on this website has previously stated, this is a cheap way to getting a great souvenir and a lasting memory of a day out at one of our historic venues. Not everyone has unlimited resources to spend on coins.

No one calls themselves referees on this site, you have to be appointed. Danthann is worldwide referee for elongated coins
I don't understand why people get their knickers in knots about this. We are all collectors of Numismstics, and if you only collect by date, feel free to do it. If you colllect only certain countries, feel free to do it. If you want to collect elongated coins, feel free to do it.
At the end of the day Numista caters for us all, and if you do not want any elongated coins in your collection, feel free not to add them.
But going off about something this way reminds me of the intolerance in the world. Accept that ohers have different interests and move on. What will it change to get in a tizz like this, other than to alianate someone without any benifit?

Peace and love!!! I miss the old Hippie times…
You like it? collect them, talk about them, search, enjoy.
You don't like them? just ignore while nobody wants to force you about it.
Numismatics is for fun to me; I like to look, search, investigate, and also learn some more things.
At home we collect coins, notes, a few tokens and medals, but also key holders, owls, pens with logos, stones and sand. Am I crazy? Maybe, but I don't suffer my madness, I enjoy it.
I like elongated pennies, just as a curiosity, have a couple, but don't collect them. I like some PMD coins, if the modifications are “artistic”; I don't like much the counterstamped coins, but I recon they are part of the numismatics, and important pieces of history, but will not blame on them nor try to eliminate from catalog. Why should I fight against things that in fact exist, and will be there even if they are not in my likes?
It is not mandatory to collect elongated pennies, not even to look the posted pages or learn about them; so if you don't like them, just ignore and follow your desires.
Just think Numista is a place to find information about numismatics and related items. They had to set a scope of what will be in catalog, under the risk of overflow its capacity. What must be in or what must be out, will be always on arguing, cause usually there is not a clear border on categories. Do you know white polar bears do not exist? 😲 In fact, they are black, but with a dense white fur, so they look as white animals; just notice on paws, mouth and nose, where hair is shorter, they show the black skin. This mean things are not always as you see them.
Happy collecting, you will learn something every day!
Ofcourse everybody is free to collect what she/he may like. That is not the point.
The point is: PMD-items should not be in our valuated catalogue; they are not coins anymore,
I can not see why it is so dificult to understand that.
Even more strange to ‘employ’ here a referee for elongated coins from countries
with rare, expensive coins like, as mentioned before, German East Africa for example.
For a serious collector it is very annoying to see we have a referee for this…
This is my opinion, everybody is free to disagree, I guess my point is clear:
I do dislike PMD treated like a real coin.
Except they're not in the coin catalogue, they exist within exonumia

As you keep mentioning German East Africa, I did a search under coins, tokens and medals: no elongated coins
Yes, there is a referee, but they are not “employed”, they volunteer. The reason it appears on that page is because it's a world-wide position, I doubt there will be any need to adjudicate elongated coins from German East Africa.
Are we not all “serious” collectors here?

Some are not ‘serious’ collectors here, I think that is crystal-clear….

Bingo. Elongated Pennies are not treated like coins here.

I'm sure you realize that Numista has only one referee for elongated coins and by default shows up as elongated coin referee for all countries in Numista.

Whatever, it is very boring and complete unnecesary, a referee for PMD…

You'd rather everyone can enter their own elongated coin pages without any referee approving them? 😇

It should not be possible to add this PMD in the catalogue in the first place.
Maybe so but sometimes you just have to accept the majority of members that bothered to vote and voice their opinions.

Nothing wrong with that. But this is my opinion.
Btw if a billion people say 2 times 2 is 5, it is still nonsens…

Not in the US today. It would be declared truth by Executive Order.

I thank God I am from Europa.

🤣😂Sometimes reading these message's are like read commits on Facebook😆.
I saved the Elongated Pennies too but don't enter them here on Numista. Some people save knickknacks from places they visited. I used to until they became dust collectors so now I save Elongated Pennies, got little books for them and they don't collect dust. But once the pennies get flatten they are no longer pennies and “to me” no longer have Numista value.
Just my opinion, to each his (or her)own.
HAPPY COLLECTING
