Portugal silver commemoratives 1966-1976 - were they in circulation? [解決]

4 posts
I am wondering about several Portugal silver commemoratives - 20 escudos 1966 KM#592 (Salazar Bridge), 50 escudos 1972 KM#602 (Os Lusiadas) and 100 escudos 1976 KM#603 (Carnation Revolution). Does anybody knows if those coins were in circulation (at least theoretically) or have been used strictly as the non-circulating commemorative? Numista catalog doesn't have "Non circulating" mark on them but were they really in any circulation other than between collectors?
Thanks

Yes, those coins have circulated and not just theoretically.
Thanks a lot for the information, though it means (for me) that now I have to find those 50 and 100 escudos z)

In Portugal almost all the coins issued that are not proof are "circulating coins". Some coins due its low mintage was difficult to catch in circulation, but all are circulating coins. Some very common in circulation, others less, but all with legal tender and issued for circulation too. Sometimes, besides the circulating coins, they also issue the same coin but in a more expensive metal, like silver, gold or palladium. These last ones are not circulating coins.
At the top of page of a coin you can see if the coins was circulated or not. Exemple of a "Circulating issue": https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5791.html and "Non circulating issue":https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces36993.html
