i know nothing of coins but I found this in an old box. Is it real or how can I tell? Is so what is the value?
It looks like a Colonial Mexico 8 Reales, but it looks like it might be a cast fake to me.

It should weigh 27.07 grams

It is heavy in my hand, but I don't have an adequate gram scale. :(
The details look very crude.
Might be a (chinese) replica
Do you have the dimensions?

It is one inch.
It is made of a lost-wax casting in China, in 1992, on the coastal city North of Hong Kong, in a little shop with a man named Chong running it. He also sells 700-year old Tibetan hand-crafted Buddha's made of Jade, but he gets them from Mexico, and it is not really Jade.
I have the time, if you have the money.
I may go ahead and say it's a fake from that era (just my opinion).
Doesn't look chinese made.
The fake give away for me immediately is the " III ", it is slightly tilted to the left.

Shame, it would have been a nice coin if genuine.

Thanks y'all! I thought so too- but i wanted to check before it became a part of my son's pirate theme playtime!
Pirate play time is a great use for it. I was going to ask if you wanted it becuase thats what l would do with it. You could write fake on it though.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
