OK - I saw a post the other day that reminded me of a collecting theme I started but put aside. So what are your best lion coins. Post photos or scans and I will do the same.

Cannot remember what others I have, and I looked in just one bag (out of many) and found eight of them; not sure which is my favourite. The first has a lion at the top below the star ...

In my 'silver' bag I only found five ...

Lastly I looked in my 'old' (before 1900) bag of copper or bronze ...

That will do for now!  :)

Will see if I can get some later but..

- east Africa & Uganda protectorate 50c
- east Africa 50c
India 5 rupees
India 10 rupees (sure it's the platinum jubilee of the RBI)

Uk 50p coins had a lion say next to Britannia

Sierra Leone (lion mountains)  had a lion ready to pounce on their coins too
Oh the 1803 1 cash has a lion on it !
A small selection of some I have.

Lion is also at the Czech coat of arms, so you can have a look at all coins from the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia.
I am your referee for the coins from the Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia and Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia
The lion is also on the Fijian florins on the coat of arms but I haven't got my scanner up and running.
Here is the latest from Singapore (Singa means Lion). I have some more lions of other countries. Please note that the Reservebank of India Coin picture I feel is a Tiger and not lion as Tiger is the national animal of India and not Lion which are rare in India (Indian lions are on decline).

Older one from Singapore

V. Nagarajan

Here's another
I always wanted to be someone, now I realise I should have been more specific.
Lions are very nice on coins, my favorites from the common coins are the Belgium centimes. With a quick look I found some coins with lions in my Balkans album, although we don't have lions here :)

The last coin is from Ethiopia, you should look there as almost all their coins are with lions. Bulgaria has a lion in the coat of arms!

I am sorry the two copper coins are not clearly visible due to poor light, but they are Italian States, Venice, 1 soldo and gazzetta (2 soldi) for Dalmatia and Albania under Venetian rule 1600-1700 AD with St. Mark lion. I mean those coins:

You can find also lions on some Ehtiopian coins.
Almost all Iranian coins from before the revolution 1979 have lions on them. The Lion and Sun is a Persian symbol, see Wikipedia's article.
This one which I'm surprised hasn't been posted already, 1st is the larger version, 2nd is the smaller version.

India 5, 10 & 20 cash coins

Sierra Leone coinage

I'm not orange and also in other things I'm not a Donald at all. DonChori like Don Felipe or Doña María, por favor.
Czechoslovakian [Czech] double-tailed lions started me to collect coins back in 1971.
I love them all, and since ....  I keep wondering... why the the beast has two tails?

Thanks - I see you are in Netherlands so I guess you know their coins way better than me; now I looked at those pictures I see what you mean - there are quite a few Dutch coins there.  :)

Yes, especially the duit pieces are in a good nick. Most of the time they're pretty corroded, but yours are very nice! I need to buy some for my collection, I've got just a few of these coins.
