Searching for "av" returns thousands of false hits

When I search for the string “av” I'm told 9504 results found, but many of the pages don't contain “av” (except sometimes as part of engrAVer).

Why am I getting these false returns and how can I get just the pages with “av”?

(The reason for my search: Some English pages use “av” (abbreviation for French or German “avers”) instead of obverse. For example the second and forth mintage line comment for N#25782 until my edit is approved. I would like to find and fix other uses.)

One thing could be AV = AU = Gold, but even a "Av:" search will not work because the colon gets ignored to find more medieval legend texts that are improperly formatted (according to the guidelines at least).

The only thing would be if there is a hidden ‘year line comment’ filed that can be addressed by a search.

These “helpful replacement” search issues show up in the forums every once in a while. It would be nice if there was an option to disable them for a search.
