Austro-Hungarian 1000 Kronen banknote stamp identification request.

Hello there,

I'd appreciate any help in identifying the stamp or at least transcribing it. The bank note aquired from a Hungarian seller. I'm especially curious about (seemingly) the date at the bottom of the stamp (1 JUNI 1902?). The banknotes haven't even begun circulating until 1903, and it doesn't look like 1922 either.

Also, another more general question: from a hundred or so images of various Austro-Hungarian banknotes from years 1900-1914, I've never encountered a single one with the four-digit serie number lower than 1006 (they are ennumerated with a 4-digit series on the German side, and a 5-6-digit number, depending on denomination, on a Hungarian side), which makes me wonder, whether the the series start with 1000 or maybe 1001, ant not 0001? (To clarify, does any one have any information, if the lowest possible number for, let's say 1000 Kronen banknote would be 0001-00001 or 1000-00001?)

Thank you.

This?

Is it possible the staps in from 1962? That could make it into some commemoratiev stamp put on this note for some numismatic congress or maybe even just a stamp that has nothing to do with this note.

just guessing here …

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

As for the lowest serial number, it should be 1001 on the Austrian side of all Austro-Hungarian crown banknotes with the 4-digit format. (information from the Bajer catalogue of Czech and Czechoslovakian paper money, as these banknotes also circulated on the Czechoslovak territory; it doesn't say anything about Hungarian serial numbers though).

I would say the stamp is probably not from the period when the banknote actually circulated. I agree with BramVB it could be from a much later numismatic fair or meeting. It can also be home-made by someone who just wanted to create a numismatic rarity. Unfortunately, there are many notes from the second group on various internet marketplaces. Of course, I'm not an expert on these stamps either.

The stamp is a postwar validation mark. It was applied later to older Austro Hungarian notes to legalize or account for them, often with a date like 1 Juni 1927. It does not indicate circulation in 1903.

Serial numbers on 1000 Kronen notes did not start at 0001. They were printed in large blocks, and low numbers below four digits are not known for this denomination. The stamp does not change that and does not imply an early or special serial range.
