Hello fellow collectors,
I have noticed that the Isle of Man 1 Pound 1987 (Viking) seems to have a rotation of about 22.5° on the reverse.
The Numista picture suggests the following orientation on the reverse as correct:
Also note that the other years have the same orientation with “ONE POUND” written at the bottom and in case of the Douglas, Castletown and Peel coins also one dot on each side with a horizontal alignement.
Now flip the coins over and the obverse is rotated by 22.5°.
I have looked at all the 1987 1 Pound coins I could find on eBay and all of the coins with a fixed reference point (for example in flips) seem to have this orientation.
Now my question is: Is this the correct orientation or is this an error? Was this intended or a mistake by the mint or in the design? Does anybody have a coin with a different orientation?
Looking forward to the discussion and insights. Thanks!
Chris
