Picked up a job lot of medals on Ebay for this one in particular: Edward VIII proposed coronation aluminium medal.

Unlisted in the major catalogues for these issues, Giordano, and Whittlestone & Ewing. I've only seen 2 other copies in 15 years of collecting this theme, so pleased to get this one.

Just come across this in a local shop…

It seems to be some sort of medallion from an antiques importer in Curacao and appears to be silver - 26mm x 1.8mm.  Can anyone help with any more info?

Nice medal !

Interestingly, KG VI memorabilia is often worth more than KE VIII items, simply because after the abdication the decision was made to stick with the proposed date of the coronation that had been set for crowning of King Edward.  This meant that there was very little time to arrange for the production of bespoke King George memorabilia and an awful lot of unwanted items being sold off of a King that was no more.

‘ANNA AVSTRIACA FRANC ET NAVAR REGINA – cast Bronze Medal Cliché. c.1830’

[Possibly by Achille Collas (1795-1859)]

 Not on Numista

As it is a cliché then no idea what would be on the other side.

Guessing it was a test pressing before this 1642 medal (with loop) was made >

‘Netherlands Jeton’

That first side looks similar to a Venus penny, but most

have her holding something in her lowered right hand -

not in her raised left hand like that.

The other side can not find anywhere - a shield divided

into five parts - lines, fleurs, lion, stripes, with lion in centre.

A couple of additions to my UK political medals

Winston Churchill 80th birthday 1954 (still PM at the time)

UK EEC Referendum 1975

I just added this 1970s Franklin Mint commemorative to the catalog

I wish I could figure out how to photograph a mirror like silver proof without the camera appearing on the coin…

Here is another piece of Franklin Mint foldirol that I got today.

One of a series of 135, Flags of the United Nations.

This one is 50.6mm x 25.3mm, and almost 40 grams, a nice hefty ingot.

They are all the same height, but the length varies depending on the proportions of the national flags. I did not know flags varied so much that way.

I have about 25 of these now, and keeping an eye out for others.

Just found this Replica coin in a pile of circulation coins collected from a friend today…

It's not much of a find, but we don't appear to have it listed yet.  It doesn't seem to have WRL stamped anywhere, so I'm not sure who has produced it (approx.  17mm x 1mm - so quite small)   I assume it's a copy of some sort of Roman Britannia coin, possibly Antonius Pius - Any suggestions?

‘Flanders French - Ordination and Sacre de L’Archbishop of Cologne (Köln) 1707’

It's my sixth Chronogram item - where adding any Roman Numerals [MDCLXVI] shown on

it add up to the date. Namely: CCI+CLMI+CIICI+CLII / 201+1151+203+152 = 1707 total.

Well, I just discovered this thread (I've been posting in the one in general)

I picked up this medal today, it's a little bit of history from my home state.  I don't seem to see it in the catalog yet so later this evening if I can find some time I'll try to get it added.   .

I also picked up this token from Okinawa, and a trade dollar from a religious book store in Texas in one of my monthly bulk coin bag purchases.

I didn't really have any intention in collecting tokens and trade dollars but I don't know now that I have a few I feel like there's room in a binder for a few more… haha.

Yet more Franklin mint collector silver.

In the 1980's,  another silver flags-of-the-world series of mini- ingots was issued, electro-plated gold.

I stumbled upon a little lot of these recently.  24 in all. (there were eventually 147)

They seem to have been issued in alphabetical order. I got Afhanistan thru Burma , and France thru Guyana.

The sealed packages suffered water damage, with tarnishing evident.

This gave me excuse to take them all out and clean them with alcohol. The paper and the plastic both had decayed and left residue.

The tarnish colors on the gold are very interesting, and were not altered by an alcohol bath.

The engraving is impressive. These are only 9mm tall.

Now they are snug and dry in safe-flips, until I think what to do with them, and likely when Ive gotten more.

I was trying to find this link last week.. thanks Mr.Midnight.

all new stuff from my recently trip to Europe. I’m a sucker for these and only collect them as souvenirs randomly, but ive acquired quite the collection over the years

Oh wow, didn't know we had these, so I will stop showing medals in the coin thread then.

Olivar Cromwell - part of a series of medallions from the Sentimental Magazine 1773 - this one is either silver or silvered copper. Noticed archaic spelling and off centred striking, thought this was silver, but its only silvered as a reference I found, said the copper medallions cost 6d and silvered copper 9d, although competition winners got silver medals. This one weighs 5.45gram, the same weight as copper so is likely plated. High grade and very nice.

A Deadman's penny, for a Scottish light infantry man “Parlane McFarlane” a name that rolls off the tongue. The weirdest thing was buying this in a shop in Christchurch, New Zealand (Obviously his family migrated). He was killed at Gallipoli (Although after the Anzac landings and before Chunuk Bair). I have always wanted a Deadmans Penny, a 120mm, 330 gram slab of bronze. I keep it in a nice box out of respect too.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

‘Germany 1757 Rosbach Lissa Battle 28mm Medal’

[FREDERIC KING OF PRUSSIA / LISSA DEC 5 // WE SUBMIT PRISONERS OF WAR / DEC 19 1757]

So … after rotating the seller's pictures, to try and read the lettering …

N#110304

N#118449

those three are the only similar Rosbach items on here.

From a combination of those managed to work out the Obverse lettering.

Some searches elsewhere for the Reverse found these other three ..

The first is similar, but looks to have nothing above the lower scenery.

The second looks more promising, but not the right shape.

The third is much closer but still slightly different.

Though at least now also got the lettering for it.
