I am planning on making my own coin. I have already made a design for the coin, and I know someone who can make it for me. I designed it for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the town I’ve lived around my entire life, Uniontown, Pennsylvania. It was founded on July 4th, 1776, the same day the United States declared its independence
It will be 80 mm in diameter, 6 mm in thickness, and will be made of aluminum
Did you know that Pluto is still a planet in Illinois and New Mexico and has de facto recognition as a planet in Arizona?

Forgot to mention that the color is based on height, white being lowest and dark gray being highest, each one going up in increments of 0.2 mm

And for those who are wondering, the building on the reverse is the Fayette County Courthouse, which is the tallest building in the city, and the first building built in the city was built behind the courthouse, where the county jail now stands
The main reason I chose to put the courthouse on the coin is because it kinda reminds me of a bicentennial half dollar
This is a photo I just took of it, unfortunately I’m not at a good spot to take a picture of it right now

Do you are designing either a token or a medal not a coin (BTW in Italy is illegal to produce your own coins, I assume it is the same in USA)
I put it as a commemorative medal in the creation request, but in the U.S., it’s only illegal to produce coins that are meant to deceive people into thinking it’s a circulating coin (counterfeits). I don’t plan on using the coin as actual money though, so I’m able to make the coin

If I make a second one to sell/swap with someone, what would it be worth? The melt value of the aluminum is only 20 cents, but there is only two of them.

How much will it cost you to have two 3 inch dies made to produce 1 or 2 tokens of your design? Your chosen manufacturer can answer your questions about pricing.

Could you not easily deceive an idiot tourist because it says „Five Dollars“ on it? Because it isn’t 5 Dollars surely that could count as deception, or? Wouldn’t it be best to leave the value off - so as to be 100% legal? Or have text Five Dollar Token or something.

Neat idea, always fun to see some artistic talent. Looks like a nice simple “coin”, not too cluttered with excess stuff. Simple, direct to the point. I like it.
Just read up on some of the history, pretty cool to be created on the same day as your country, especially just by coincidence. Do find it funny that it's a city at only ~9,400 residents. Where I live is ~9,300 and we're considered a small town. Suppose it's an administrative thing & not based off population - the smallest UK city has a mere ~1,700. Guess it's probably a similar story in the US. Anyway, enough sidetrack.
I know the others, correctly, say about the legality but if it's literally one in the world, it's basically never going to sneak out into circulation anyway so does it really matter? At least, in your own lifetime & after that, well you won't be around to suffer the punishment. 😛
I suppose you could call it “Zero” or use a “0” which might look less … not sure of the word. Zero just is a funny looking word y'know?
Or go for “1776” dollars or “250” dollars. Inflation would have to hit really hard to require a coin that size!
Or just call them good ol' “Pluto-bucks”. 🙂
I suppose you could also go for “Pennsylvania pounds” as a historic callback, or “Continental Dollars” which was the de jure (If not de facto) currency in 1776. I know they only issued banknotes & that the coins were just foreign (primarily British & Spanish I believe). Still, since it's not USD, would probably get you out of any legal issues.
Would probably then allow you to create a few extras if you wanted to gift/sell any.
Anyway, enough being sidetracked. Neat idea, good design, look forward to seeing the real deal. 🙂
Ok, so I noticed that some people don’t agree with me having “Five Dollars” on the coin, so I changed it. It now says “Five Scrips”, which is a hint towards the company scrips used in patch towns during the height of the coal mining industry. I haven’t seen any instances of scrips being used in Fayette County or the Uniontown area, but they were used in patch towns all over Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Agree or disagree wasn’t my intention, I purely didn’t want you to fall foul of the law. One thing I know for certain is if Police have it in for you for any reason they will find/use anything against you that they can, whereas other people can do what ever they want and get away with it. I wish you all the best with this item.

Why would such nonsensical-kindergarten-items added to our valuated catalogue??? It is nice someone made a thing he like, and maybe it is beautifull too. But is completely bullsh*t to add it in the catalogue. Tomorrow I am going to make some 'coins' on my lathe; should they be in the catalogue too???? We are on a real downwards spiral with this behaviour.
Or is it Numista who wants to have a million ‘coins’ added to set some kind of disputable world-record?

This is really rude, I put a lot of effort into making this coin look very good, I made drawings for the design, and I added a lot of detail to it. In my opinion, I designed my coin like how a professional coin designer would. Just because it wasn’t made by a government or a company doesn’t mean that it has no place in Numista. This is a website for coin collecting and if someone wants to make their own coin, so what? The point of coin collecting is to have fun. Also, why target someone who just wants to make their own coin and not the country that has more types of collector coins than they do people? You’re acting like i made a low quality coin and added it to the catalog.

Sorry man, it was/is not my intention to be rude to anyone. My point is still, home-made things, wether they are nice or not, do not belong in a serious coin-catalogue, if you do not understand that, it is your problem. I do not like to go here in endless discussions. Imo there should not be any beerbottlecap-washer-homemade-Niue-fake coin in the catalogue.
I am not arguing for or against adding a self made vanity medal after it exists. I am arguing against adding it before it exists. A coin, medal, token is not a sketch on a piece of paper. Your page should never have been created or validated until after you actually made one.
I don’t see a problem with this particular piece being filed under tokens in the catalogue. that’s the beauty of having this online. Using filters is extremely easy and if you only collect for instance non-commemorative circulation Coins, then go ahead and filter accordingly. Similarly if you exclusively collect tokens, then filter as appropriate
however I do agree this particular catalogue entry should be taken down until the actual token has been made
I've been thinking about to design my own coins (tokens) and banknotes, but I have no idea how to get the idea from paper to an actual physical object.
Anyhow, please don't forget to post the final result here. 😊

I won’t forget, but it may take a while though, since the person making it is busy

How was it even accepted as an existing coin without proof? So anyone can draw up a design and say it's a real coin? There needs to be stricter rules about this

No, the rules (guidelines) just need to be enforced. The guidelines for exonumia lead to this statement:
A coin is a rigid piece of material that has a determined value…
Clearly a sketch is not a rigid piece of material.
