Why is this the only US quarter that uses the regular “standard circulation” obverse???
To my knowledge the US quarters used to have their own obverse design, where they have moved around most of the lettering.
Example:
With the only exception being the bicentennial quarter which makes sense to me since it predates the modern quarter sets.
Which means you can see if its a commemorative even if you only see the side with Washingtons head.
We all know they switched the design entirely in 2022.
So why did they use this one year earlier in 2021??
Its not even consistent cause the OTHER 2021 commemorative (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces262199.html)
does have the regular commemorative obverse.
And i can see that they moved the “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on the reverse which they usually don't so it kinda makes sense to not have it on both sides. But why did they move it in the first place?
Its one of these smaller inconsistencies that's kinda annoying even though i don't really collect these, cause im pretty sure its the only one.
If someone is curious how and why i noticed, its because i saw a picture of a friend from the US from his desk and he had US change on there. As a joke he asked me if i could identify from this side which specific quarter it is and i used that “regular reverse” to determine it can't be a commemorative. And well… i was wrong i guess.
