Thoughts on banknotedb.com?

EDIT: Just as a note I am reading the discussion even if I do not really answer, but that is mainly also because I rarely have much to add :)

Those of you who also collect banknotes, what are your thoughts on the website Banknotedb.com?

Found it in a search when the UV image here on Numista showed a different colour than expected and I wanted a second opinion, so to speak. It seems a bit janky and unoptimized to me, and a quick look at the numbers and quality would suggest that Numista is far superior in general, but do anyone have any experience of said website? Does it seem legitimate for second opinions like this? (I would of course go with Bank Note Museum if I do not find what I need on Numista already, but BNM does not have UV images.)

Just idly curious.

The color of the UV ink depends often on the excitation source so it's important to add the used wavelength to such images. Unfortunately many refs don't seem to insist on members adding such information.

I don't really use the site but knew of it. Didn't encounter much jankyness or performance issues though. It's a site tailor-made for banknotes so it has some advantages over Numista but is lacking in other parts. I like that it utilizes my whole screen space, on Numista I have nearly 50% empty/add space.

Yep, I was thinking that about the UV light too.

Your impression of the banknotedb website is basically the same as mine, though when I went back to it again a little while later it was extremely slow for a while (especially when doing a simple text search for a banknote).

I already made my mind up of course, but I will likely only ever use it for when I cannot find the information I need here on Numista or the BNM.

Just a snapshot audit on Philippines P#177 that is not representative of all the data from each site

In Pick numbers R denotes a remainder note not a replacement one, Colnect and other sites  often just make shit up like missing continuation or sub-(sub) types.

Colnect does invent Pick numbers, however for this particular example, this is the only site to feature this note:

I finally got around to checking this banknote database out.  It seems a bit newer then Numista but it holds a lot of promise.

I noticed that they have a Banknote Database blog with fascinating articles on the design of selected banknote series.  I just finished reading 2 “What they're made of” about BOE 1990 E Series & an article on “A Very Lithuanian Journey.”

All were interesting reads & worth the time.

Ooh, that does indeed look like an interesting read.

A good point for Numista: the only website that point UV activity on N#203481

Just miss the mention of remplacement notes and prefixes to be perfect !

prefix AA-AB (2011),

Replacement note, prefix: AW (2011)

prefix AB-AC (2017)

There is no one site that can provide you all the info, but banknotedb.com seems to be the better one. However, I can see that they are still missing many scans.
