Looking at a small collection up for sale, and this coin stood out due to it's age and country of origin. I believe it to be a 1623 Ort Koronny, however I have not been able to find an exact match.

What bothers me in particular are the details/swirls on the side of the shield on the reverse. Compare for example this auction piece to the coin for sale:

Anybody with more knowledge (or better google-skills) able to comment on wether this is genuine or not?

(And before anyone asks, I have not been able to get any better photographs from the seller nor any information regarding weight or diameter…)

I've been able to find a coin similar to yours and a related auction result, but these auctions don't have the corresponding Kopicki numbers, which is why it's hard to attribute it to a Numista entry. The catalogue that is given is “Shatalin BD23-143” or “BD23-146”. These swirls seem to be catalogued, making it possible that this coin is genuine. Here are the auction results:

Very good eye, DanzigCoins.

Normally those decorations are mirror images above and below (i.e. as reflected across a horizontal line), but this variety seems to be an exception.

And it seems to be more valuable than other variants, at 150+ euro for VF condition.

Dziękuję, DanzigCoins! Incredibly quick reply!

Translation of the description: "A rare variety with decorative bows next to the coat of arms on the reverse. Caponated coin…"

What does caponated (pl: kaponowana) mean?

What does caponated (pl: kaponowana) mean?

That's actually a new word for me. After researching it (which took quite long, I was constantly redirected to an Italian salad) I found that this is a way to protect metals from corrosion and is often used when a metallic part should not corrode. Atleast from what I understand, I am still not quite sure. There was no definition in a dictionary, I took it from someone selling some metallic parts.

Also got a bunch of Sicilian sallad recipes, think I'll have some tomorrow for lunch 🤔 Thanks again for the help!

Maybe it means a coin that has been lacquered?
