Page paints, and database writes seem to take a long time. It is Numista or is it my computer?

I have plenty of bandwidth, so that is not it. It seem to be this site.

Is there anything I can do to speed things up? use a different browser? I use latest chrome.

If I pay for premium will or can I get faster access?

am accessing from Japan and the page is currently loading very slowly. Probably a Numista problem.

Hello!

Numista runs a heavy nightly refresh during the night - that being during night in Europe. That can result in some slowness during those hours.

Numista Premium would not help in this case.

Best regards,

Is there a specific time when the refresh runs? Like 1am to 2am European Time? Just interested so I can possibly avoid those times when logged on in Australia which would be 10am to 11am if that were the case.

It runs for several hours, most of the time you won't notice it, otherwise there would be a lot of messages like this.

Slow has been a recurring problem not always due to nightly refresh.

You can check here to see if it's you or Numista.

Data point:

14:50 UTC banknote images are taking (average) 62 seconds each to display.

The server load has been very high for the past couple of months, resulting in periods of slowness for the website. I made some adjustments today and I'll monitor in the next few days whether things have really improved or we need heavier changes.

Could you please clarify what you measured? That's not what I observe when I browse the banknote catalogue in general. Some pictures may have a high resolution and may take more time to download, but that's not necessarily related to the general slowness issue.
Also, please note that images are served via a CDN (content delivery network), which caches images on a server close to your location. As a result, the time for the initial download might be different from the time for subsequent downloads.

Yes, initial download of any banknote image takes over 60 seconds each.  If I go back to it later, it is immediate.

Example: this note's obverse image N#204561 took 95 seconds to load, but if I close the window and go back to re-open, it is immediate.

This seems exceptionally slow, and I do not remember this happening in the past for previously unviewed notes.

@Xavier

This sounds extremely slow. You mean 95 seconds just to see the small picture on the linked page, not even to zoom in?
Does anyone else experience something similar?

95 seconds for the full-page zoomed image, not the thumbnail.

The full-size picture weights 1.7 MB, which may indeed take time to download if you have a slow connection.
Do you mind sharing the results of this test to understand whether the issue is indeed related with that? https://www.speedtest.net/

That's a very tiny down compared to upload. If that is consistent you either are very far from your operator's broadband centralizer or something else is wrong with your connection.

I got this https://www.speedtest.net/result/15887326568

Super fast and Numista still slow for me downloading images too.

Hello, have you tried changing DNS? it really helps sometimes.

try Google DNS free service, really nice compared to local dns

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

can make a huge difference sometimes :)

hope this works

Susie

Hard reset everything, now have this:

All seems normal again, sorry for not checking this first.  All else that I use seemed at normal speed--I don't view images outside of Numista so it was otherwise unnoticeable to me.
