Metz Denier more information appreciated

Hi,

Compendium asked me to open this topic.

Can someone say more about this Metz Denier from the BnF that is not listed there already? The exact lettering or a reference number would be appreciated for example.

Well, the reverse typically has METENSIS around the cross, which looks ok (more or less).

The trick is obverse.  If the letter at 2:00 is an I, we could have the beginning of IACOB (Jacques) or IOHAN (Jean).

… unless the name begins at 6:00.

Not too different from this:  https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=7632700 , maybe lacking the stars in the corners, but possibly the same bishop.

I don't have Flon, and I don't think we have a member here who does.

We should also somehow get the attention of the VERY knowledgeable guys on the French side of Numista (there is already another question about a Metz denier over there).

Ooops.  I guess I should have gone to the link earlier.

I guess they are seeing A D or R D at 8-9:00 on the obverse?  (It still looks to me like I O behind his head … )

I don't think I've seen one from that bishop.

Good idea! https://fr.numista.com/forum/topic138137.html

Hi

the 2 letters on obverse are E and S …

Celui qui pose une question risque de paraître sot pendant cinq minutes, mais celui qui n'en pose pas restera sot toute sa vie.

Solved!
