Hi. I know this is just a fragment. But I’m very curious as to the history of this.

it is silver. Approx 18mm in diameter (or would be if whole)

possible links to Germany or the Austrian empire

picture included for a clear idea of the design

any input welcome. Thank you

Will have a look. I quickly made this - no idea which way up it is >

Thank you Zac

it reminded me of a shield

It’s very worn too. There was a circular design just about visible on the other side

It could be reverse of a 15th century schilling of the Teutonic order:  N#141450

Do you see something between the top of the shield and the circle on your coin?  SOome of these have a letter above the shield.

Fascinating if that’s the case

thanks for that

maybe one of those?

You mentioned a possible German or Austrian connection, so this place is not far removed (more or less modern Gdansk).  Remember lots of trading was going on between places.  I've bought Dutch coins at Polish auctions.

I’d love for that to be the case. But realisatailly it shouldn’t be

thanks for the addition

there’s some possible contenders here

this example has a very squared head of a shield that is on par with what I can see in my pic

I suppose it’s hard to completely narrow this down. But I do feel it should be something like this. Size. Thickness. And the age. I had this down as 15-1600’s based on its size/weight/thickness

Absolutely. This area changed hands a lot I understand and had a mixed history. So many comings and goings

I’m just curious if Zac had any further ideas? I’ll hold on with declaring this ‘solved‘ for now

appreciate the input thanks

I had thought the “windowpanes” were empty, but looking again, maybe not.

I agree it could be a coin with a date above the shield.  I wonder if we can see very faint 5 0 (part of a date 150X ?.

Nothing like any of the shields so far considered - the bars are very much thicker.

May even be upside-down and could be a building.

Could be seeing things that are not there …

such as circles on the thick bar, and maybe a flower on the side.

Thank you for your time Zac. It’s a hard one.
