Good evening all

I found a large medallion, 55mm ..I have no idea what it represents or date of it!?

I guess it could be napoleon? Any knowledgeable help appreciated..

Many thanks!

Joe

I have one, I think - though maybe a smaller size.

Give me a few minutes …

Maybe not. Similar but facing the other way. Still looking …

Many thanks Zac!

The reverse is certainly similar - looking at your medallion looks a much older version though?

Unfortunately the text on mine is almost impossibe to read as so worn! I am sure I can see a ‘’Bo---te'' on the front which surely would be ‘’bonaparte'' Certainly is unusual as cannot find any like it when I google napoleon medals. I am hoping the front of yours has a napoleon on it and that would help me ID mine better…

Cheers

Joe

May not be Bonaparte - I have medallions with Borussorum lettering.

The portrait it surrounds looks more like yours. Will see if I can find some ...

Yes - here is one page I created six years ago.

My pictures on there. Similar obverse.

For comparison - not the same, but similar military uniform and posing …

Perfect Thanks!

I would never have found that…especially following the Napoleon route!! (The only reason i thought it was Napoleon is that I found a death commemoration medal of Napoleons tomb in the same field dated 1853)

Thans again Zac…you help make it so easy!

Thanks. I have been looking for nice quality pictures to see

what it originally looked like, and found these from a museum …

Thanks Zac

It really is a wonderful medallion! I guessed it may be victorian at first, but to find it is  dated 1757 or so is fantastic news. I do dig a lot of Georgian artifacts in the area too.

It also explains unfortunately how so much detail has eroded away in the soil!
