Hi All,
Am looking for some information on this coin as Edward has been spelt as Edvard. I am a bit foxed as i cant find any information on this variation.
Please help.
Thanks in advance,
Mario

That is the way they spelled it back then, perfectly normal.
Mike
Many thanks for your clarification Mike. When i look at similar coins of the same period the Edwards are all spelt with a W. so the spelling of Edvard in this coin is strange unless it is an unknown variant.
Cheers for your help Mike.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with @brismike, it's not something I remember seeing before. This is the link to the Numista catalogue page for your coin: N#52388
It is my understanding at this time that in order to produce a ‘w’ on the die, they punched two ‘v’s and it looks to me as if your coin is an error where they only punched one ‘v’. There are 130 search results on the CNG website here https://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&ITEM_DESC=SCBC+2482&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_4=1&TABS_TYPE=1&CONTAINER_NAME=&CONTAINER_TYPE_ID=1&VIEW_TYPE=0&MAX_COUNT=10000&PAGE=1 and while I didn't check all 130 of them, all the ones I looked at had ‘Edward’ on the obverse. You may want to contact one of the grading companies or maybe even Spink to confirm the validity of your coin.
I defer to Rick, he knows a lot more about these early British coins than me. 🤐
Apologies - Mike
The term ‘double U’ doesn't come from nothing. Handcut dies have a pletora of possible errors; missing letters, doubled, switched or mirrored letters.

Rick is Correct your coin if Genuine is very rare and is not Mentioned in Spink as it looks like Sp# 2482 a very nice Coin.
Hi,
I'm new to the site so have only just seen this.
Yes the coin is S.2482 & N.1937 and even though the EDVARD variety is not mentioned in the catalogue it is a known variety and quite rare.
I only know of 3 examples that have come to market in recent years all of which have come through auction. They are as follows:
Sincona AG, Auction 79, lot 1078, weight 6.24g, 24th. October 2022.
CNG, E-Auction 475, lot 836, 5.75g, 26th. August 2020. The same coin resurfaces in Auction 495, lot 694, 7th. July 2021 and is Ex Lampasas Collection & Ex Baldwins.
Downies, Auction 321, lot 1812, 3rd. May 2016.
Funnily enough neither Sincona or Downies mention the legend error in their cataloguing, only CNG refer to the variety but list it as “scarce.”
They definitely don't surface too often. The 3 “EDVARD” examples I found were in amongst about 300 sales of fine issue shillings.
Hope this helps,
All the best,
J.
Many thanks James for your input on this error.
I'm so fortunate to have an error coin of this sort in my collection.
Thanks again for solving this puzzle.
