edge lettering position

Hi all !

Just a question : do you consider coins with different edge lettering position as different coins ?
e.g. a british 1 pound 1983 pos A and pos B
Or do you keep only one of them ?
I know that for belgian coins the position can influence the value, does it for coins from other countries too ?

I personnaly collect both but in most cases this is not something controlled at mint, so you have 50% of chance to get one or the other.
In Numista this info is mainly registered by user using a private comment on year line.

It really depend of what you want, so the only one that should be interested by this question is you :-)

Personally I don't care about most variants but never the less if something happens by chance I wouldn't consider it a variant (the same as an error). The Belgian coins are considered variants because there was a certain position that was the norm but a few were minted the "wrong" way. The amount of them is far smaller then on modern mass production coins were the coin edge is pressed in before the obverse/reverse minting and arrives in the dies at random.
If we would consider random A/B positions variants why shouldn't we then consider the 720 possible variants possible (in degrees) too?

It's so frustrating to have 719 variations but can't find the 136A to complete the set. I'd like to finish the set and move on to the next year.

And sellers never seem to answer my question, even when I give them detailed instructions on how to measure the rotation.

More seriously: I've never understood Isle of Man 50 Pence KM# 51 (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces37168.html but the listing doesn't cover every detail from Krause).

KM# 51.1: Upright with obverse on top
KM# 51.2: Lettering upright with reverse on top
KM# 51.3: Inscription not centered in flat sections.

Did the "not centered" version only happen with one of the A/B positions or should there be 51.3A "not centered A" and 51.3B "not centered B"?
