Genuine Holes

With holes in coins being a bit of a hot topic and the general consensus being they devalue coins but it  really is no reason not to keep them if you like the coin or could not afford a more pristine example I thought I would add that obviously some coins are made with holes in them and others were meant to have holes put in them to be worn like touch pieces which were given to the sick by Monarchs after the Monarch had touched them in order to cure their illness, so the value of these also are not effected by their holes. Last night I was doing some research about some coins I have just bought and found out that French One Centimes were deliberately Holed in Saigon in order for them to circulate in Cochinchina.

Does anybody know of something similar happening elsewhere?

Australian Holey Dollars.

The cut out part was used as a 15 Pence piece. I think other colonies, such as Canadian provinces, also had holey dollars.

Here is a 1990 Australia one - outer Dollar and inner Dump ...

It is listed on eBay - Item number: 260633446335
The seller is in Spain and is asking Euro 67.00 plus 4.99 postage.
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
Oh Zac, that's a different coin.

To commemorate the Holey Dollar, they made one in '90. Of course it was holed, but it was done before being released.

I remembered something else. Chinese cash coins, although "holed", do not go through the holing process like Western coins. When moulded, they fit into the shape of a coin without a hole. It doesn't make sense the way I say it, but that's what they did.

I'm also guessing Spanish colonial independence issues holed coins that circulated throughout the empire.

That is very interesting, I would also like to see and original with its center 15 Pence.
