Tantalum (chemical symbol Ta) is a rare, hard, and dense metal with a dark grey to blue-grey appearance. It is exceptionally resistant to corrosion and virtually immune to attack by most acids. Like titanium, tantalum can be anodized to produce a range of vivid colours through surface oxidation. Due to its rarity and high cost, tantalum is used exclusively for collector coins.
