Wang Xiao-lin is Associate Professor of Japanese language and literature in the Department of Asian and International Studies at City University of Hong Kong. A native of Xi'an, he earned an MA from Kyoto Prefectural University and a PhD from Kyoto University (1990). His research explores Sino-Japanese exchanges in literature, religion, mythology, and intellectual history. Wang has published five monographs, including The Formation and Development of Japanese National Studies (2013), Studies in Sino-Japanese Comparative Mythology (2014), and The Literature of Zen Buddhism: The Ten Oxherding Pictures (2015). He is currently writing a comparative study of Chinese and Japanese philosophical and political thought, and he teaches courses on Japanese culture and the history of Sino-Japanese relations.
