Virenium is a silver-coloured base-metal alloy in the nickel-silver family, developed and patented by the Pobjoy Mint in 1978. It usually contains 81% copper, 10% zinc, and 9% nickel, giving a silvery appearance without any precious metal content. Virenium is encountered mainly in modern commemorative and collector issues, as well as some circulating issues produced by Pobjoy for certain territories.
