Aluminium bronze is copper-based alloy containing aluminium (typically between 5% and 11%), sometimes with small additions of other elements. It has a warm golden colour with high strength and corrosion resistance compared with many other copper alloys. Aluminium bronze became increasingly common for coinage from the mid-20th century onward, and is widely used today for higher-denomination circulation coins.
