Abstract
On the evidence brought by the study of the hoard of Damascus (1950) and the correlation of types of Umayyad dirhams the author suggests that the minting of Kūfi c dirhams in the Umayyad Caliphate falls into seven distinct periods:
I: 78/79–82/83 A.H.
II: 83/84–89 A.H.
III: 90–98/99 A.H.
IV: 99/100–102/103 A.H.
V: 103–114 A.H.
VI: 115–126 A.H.
VII: 127–132 A.H.
The author believes that this scheme provides a convenient framework for the analysis of any complexes of Umayyad silver coins.
