This paper aims to provide a brief summary of counterfeit Roman coin moulds discovered within an area roughly corresponding to the territory of the province of Britannia Inferior, extending from Lincoln and Chester in the south to Hadrian’s Wall in the north (and thus complementing a further paper in this volume summarizing finds from north of the Wall and from southern Scotland, outside the Roman province). It includes preliminary discussion of several sets of previously unpublished (or incompletely published) finds, from Aldwark in York; from Fulford, near York; and from Doncaster, South Yorkshire; all in advance of fuller publication by the author. In addition, it also rehearses the author’s ideas on the dating of the manufacture and circulation of counterfeit denarii as well as on the motives that led to their production, also in advance of fuller publication elsewhere.
