Abstract

This article presents data on 50 Ancient Rus' lead seals from excavations by A.V. Vaitsiakhovich in the archaeological complex at the Mienka River settlement. The study conducts a comparative analysis of these artefacts with discoveries from Miensk-on-Niamiha, the suburbs of Lahojsk, and other historical regions of Ancient Rus.

Predominantly featured among the finds are small seals attributed to Boris Vseslavich, Prince of Polatsk (1101–1128), alongside later seals associated with the descendants of Vladimir Monomakh and Chernihiv princes, as well as imitations.

The archaeological complex, located in Haradzishcha village, Minsk district, approximately 2 km west of the Mienka and Pcich confluence, revealed significant discoveries between 2020 and 2023. These include a jewellery workshop and a seal-making facility dating back to the 12th century, indicative of active commercial activities within this fortified settlement. Conversely, the absence of ceramics, women's jewellery, and other typical artefacts of 12th-century life suggests a suspension of intensive settlement activity, leaving behind individuals mainly involved in supporting riverine trade infrastructure.

Drawing parallels, a similarly functioning trading settlement from the same period is found 5 km east of Lahojsk, in Panizouje village, where a hillfort overlooks the Haina River, accompanied by a nearby village settlement.
