John Komnenos Doukas was the eldest son of Theodore Komnenos Doukas and last emperor in Thessalonica from 1237 until 1242 when the Nicaean claimants conquered the city. John Komnenos Doukas would rule until his death in 1244 as despot.
The obverse is often not struck and is simply a brockage.
