Sills Western Qb (2 obverse, 10 reverse dies): Early Southern Coinage; North-Western British Qb and Qc Derivatives; Staters: Class 1 - Western Qb. Lower weight and fineness than the main series. Distribution is similar to north-western Qc Wheel quarters and may be the first Dobunni coins, not least because a branch-like flaw on the obverse resembles the Dobunni branch emblem (British Ra, ABC 2003) and may have been the origin, as was the Western Qb type. Very difficult to distinguish from late British Qb (ABC 488) but often have deep striking cracks. Sills gives two examples:
Sills DK 217: Short lightning bolts around the horse. See CCI 70.0078.
Sills DK 218: Flawed around the dome, with a branch-like flaw. Irregular dashes around the horse. See CCI 93.0964.
