At the outbreak of war in 1940, Moster, like many other municipalities, became isolated from the rest of the country. It was quickly decided to address the currency issue by printing its own so-called "welfare notes" in denominations of 1, 2, 5, and 10 kroner.
The notes are printed on colored paper of poor quality, with an image of the old Moster Church on the reverse side. Old Moster Church is one of the oldest churches in all of Norway.
