Double sestertii, like regular sestertii, are struck out of orichalcum/brass. Decius created these as a response to rampant inflation. These sestertii, particularly those minted by the Gallic Empire, were typically struck over pre-existing sestertii. The regular sestertius would simply be heated to a glowing temperature before being overstruck with the new design and legends.
This denomination is considered scarce; however, they are typically available on the open market, and one can acquire such a coin with just a little patience.
